Flooding in Vernonia

My parents were here last week and we had an absolutely wonderful time with them. While they were here we finished the floors in the house!! It is such an amazing difference to the house. It feels like home again and not like we are living in a remodeling project :-) Gabe LOVED spending time with his grandpa. I was so happy to see how Gabe really connected with my dad. I was not surprised but just very happy to see that bond already growing. It was very hard to see them go on all of us. The house just felt so empty without them there. I can't wait until the next time that they get to come and visit. Hopefully it won't be too far away.
Unfortunately while they were down here our little town of Vernonia, Oregon flooded. We had a flood there in 1996 that was awful and this one was worse. Fortunately, my parents house is on a hill so they were not directly affected in that way. Although being from such a small town means that everyone knows each other so they were very concerned for the community. We were even on the CBS evening news with Katie Couric. It was so crazy to see and hear her talking about our little town! We knew that it had to have been pretty bad. Marie and dad made it home safe and were happy to see that after only two days the National Guard was already in town and helping get things cleaned up. Much faster response than what we got in 1996.
After the video that Jason posted on here of Gabe walking I have not seen him walk nearly as much! He has an appointment with the physical therapist a week from Wednesday. I am really glad that she is coming out. I was so excited to see him start walking on his own, but it seems as though he sort of went backwards now. He is crawling more than he was. So who knows! I am sure that we will have more answers in a week and a half.
I am continuing to love working at Starbucks. It is so much to learn and a lot to remember, but it is just such an awesome place to work. I have still not found a teaching position and am feeling more and more discouraged by the entire thing. Just doesn't seem as though God is opening the doors for me. We will see what happens in the next few months!!
